Bathroom Lighting Options
Written by

When it comes to lighting, bathrooms are probably given the
least consideration of all the rooms in the house. On the contrary,
bathroom lighting is extremely vital and should be properly
considered. After all, this is typically the room where everyone
puts on their face for the day and without proper lighting, who
knows what embarrassing face you'll walk out with. Not to mention,
the right bathroom lighting can make the bathroom look so much more
gracious. For these reasons, it is important to take the time to
sort through all the different lighting options.
You should consider task lighting, ambient lighting, and accent
lighting. Task, or vanity, lighting is a key component because these
fixtures work the hardest to illuminate the head and face for
grooming. Ambient lighting is most often supplied by a central
fixture; usually a surface-mounted ceiling light and it will create
the overall mood of the room. Accent lighting includes the small
recessed spotlights used to highlight artwork and accent showers.
Other lighting aspects to consider include bulb types, dimmers,
proper placement to eliminate shadows, and overall aesthetics. An
interior decorator and/or lighting professional will be able to help
you plan out your lighting scheme with more expertise. All the
different lighting elements quickly become overwhelming for
homeowners that aren't experienced with this particular area of
remodeling.
